Rising Ground’s Family Resource Center (FRC) in The Bronx, brings parents and caregivers together to build a community of support and to provide a safety net for families. Targeted to families with children under the age of five, the FRC equips parents and caregivers with knowledge, stability, support and access to resources so they can help children develop to their full potential.
The FRC hosts a wide range of free family and community activities such as playgroups, movie afternoons, and field trips, so parents and caregivers have the opportunity to come together with others in a welcoming, comfortable, and bilingual environment. Parents and children bond while meeting neighbors, building a sense of community.
Offerings and resources include:
- Parenting and life skills workshops
- Assistance with public benefits, health services, and advocacy for tenants’ rights
- Career and job-readiness workshops including help accessing ESL classes, adult education services, job skills, and assistance writing resumes and seeking jobs
- Access to a free computer lab
- Referrals to community organizations for other services
For parents and caregivers who need more intensive help, including those involved with the family court system, the FRC offers a 12-week Parenting Journey program. In addition to helping parents gain a greater understanding of child development, the program focuses on the family as a whole, encouraging positive parenting and giving parents and caregivers the tools they need to build united, strong families.
